George Sullivan, in his book Dhow chasing in Zanzibar waters and on the eastern coast of Africa, published in 1873, tells us that his Royal Navy ship, the Daphe, hunted illegal slavers during 1869. The Daphne crew successfully rescued about 322 slaves from "several different slaving vessels." Many of the liberated individuals were starving to death. CreditsFrom: George L.
