Tapestry Hangings - Account of the Spanish Invasion

The Tapestry Hangings of the House of Lords: representing the several engagements between the English and Spanish fleets in the ever memorable year 1588 - by John Pine (1690-1756) - provides us with important information regarding the details of battle.

Illustrating Britain's victory over the Spanish Armada, this work (published in 1739) contains engravings (by Pine) of tapestries (by Hendrick Vroom) which were placed in the House of Lords.  The book's preface contains various lists which provide information regarding battle details (plus the names of the ships and their captains).

Because the tapestries themselves were destroyed in an 1834 fire, Pine's engravings of the tapestries provide the surviving pictorial record of Armada images.
