Achilles - Receives New Armor from MotherIn the Iliad, Homer tells us that Achilles received new armor from his mother, Thetis: "Accept from me the glorious arms of Hephaistos so splendid, and such as no man has ever worn on his shoulders." The goddess spoke so, and set down the armour on the ground before Akhilleus. (Homer, Iliad 19.10) This image, on an ancient Greek artifact (an Attic amphora, circa 540 BC), interprets the event.
