Battle of the Atlantic - British and German NewsreelsBy the time the war in Europe ended, in May of 1945, German U-boats
had sent approximately 3,500 merchant vessels to the bottom of the sea
- 2,452 in the North Atlantic. Tens of thousands of Allied sailors and
soldiers also went down, as did about three-quarters of all German
U-boat sailors. This video is a compilation of British and German historical footage depicting the Battle of the Atlantic.
