Bellevue Hospital - Diagnosis, Schizophrenia

Bellevue is the oldest public hospital in the United States.  It was founded in 1736, when George Washington - the country's first president - was four years old.  In the beginning, it was an almshouse for poor people and had six beds.  Today, the hospital can accommodate nearly 800 patients.

According to its web site, Bellevue has a long history of helping mentally ill patients:

Bellevue has long been a pioneer in identifying and categorizing mental illness, in training psychiatrists and psychiatric nurses and in formulating effective treatment options combining science and psychosocial support that allow even seriously ill patients to return to more normal lives. Bellevue's efficient and state-of-the-art Emergency Room and Level I Trauma Center deliver complete around-the-clock care in adult, pediatric and psychiatric emergencies as well as in the nationally-designated categories of cardiac, neurological, toxicologic and neonatal emergencies. The hospital has one of the top cardiovascular programs in the State.
