Berlin, April 1945 - The Soviet Army Approaches the City

The Soviet Army inflicts horrific damage on the German people as its troops advance to, then pass over, the Oder River. Marshall Zhukov's men are caught in tank traps, but the general is determined to find a weak point in the German defenses. His men on the ground will need help from the air.

This video clip, from the History Channel's series on lost evidence, features interviews with Soviet soldiers who were part of the battle. It also includes one of Hitler's last public appearances as he meets with some of the young boys who (together with their grandfathers) are defending Berlin.

Soviets, meanwhile, are preparing to do something which has not yet happened in the war. Ground fire is about to erupt in Berlin.
