Constructing the WallOn August 13, 1961, the German Democratic Republic - known, more commonly, as East Germany - began constructing the "Berlin Wall." One official reason for building the wall, among others, was to make sure that "the will of the people" - to build a socialist country in the East - was not interfered-with by people from the West. This picture shows East Berlin construction workers building the wall on November 20, 1961.
