Edvard Munch - Death in the Sickroom

When Edvard Munch created this work - Death in the Sickroom - he was recalling what happened to his beloved sister, Sophie.  Here, although we see the whole family, the focus is on the figure representing Munch himself - as he stares at his now-deceased sister, sitting in the wicker chair.

The painting, an oil on canvas, is owned by the National Gallery (Nasjonalgalleriet) in Oslo.  Munch produced it, c. 1895.  Click on the image for a much larger view.
