Middle Ages - Death of a Knight

This illumination, from the Chronicles of Jean Froissart, illustrates the Jousts of Calais in which the lord of Clary opposes Peter of Courtenay, an English knight.  During medieval times, the results of such a joust could end with the death of a knight.

Illustration from The Chronicles of Froissart, maintained at the Bibliotheque Nationale de France.
