Flotsam and Jetsam - Death on Iwo Jima's Shore

Thousands of men died during the Battle of Iwo Jima.  Charles H. Waterhouse, an artist as well as a Marine Colonel, painted one such death scene:

In "Flotsam and Jetsam," an acrylic painting on masonite by Col Charles H. Waterhouse, he portrays the loss of his sergeant to mortar fire on the beach on D-day.
