Hector - Resisting Achilles

In describing the fight between Achilles and Hector, the Iliad says Hector advances toward his enemy with a drawn sword.  He is then stabbed by Achilles, who sends his spear into Hector's throat.  While this is happening, the god Apollo turns away.

This image, from an Attic red-figure cup (circa 480 BC), interprets the story slightly differently.  Here, Hector breaks his spear (not his sword) on Achilles' shield while Achilles moves forward with a drawn sword (not a spear).

Hector does not have long to live, no matter how the details are illustrated.
