Ivan the Terrible - At the Deathbed of His Son

After striking his heir on the head with an iron-tipped staff, Ivan the Terrible felt a great deal of remorse.  Historians record that the Tsar sat at the bedside of his dying son, meditating on what he had done.

Vyacheslav Grigorievich Schwarz (1838-69) artistically interpreted the event in this 1861 painting, entitled Ivan the Terrible Meditating at the Deathbed of His Son Ivan.
