Kentucky - Ratifies the 19th Amendment

Edwin P. Morrow, governor of Kentucky, signs the state's ratification of the 19th Amendment.  The Kentucky General Assembly had approved ratification by a vote of 72 to 25 in the House and 30 to 8 in the Senate.

Members of the Kentucky Equal Rights Association watch the governor as he signs the document.  A suffragist leader, Madeline McDowell Breckinridge, is standing behind Morrow (second from right).

Kentucky was one of four Southern states to approve the proposed amendment.  It became law on August 26, 1920 (after Tennessee confirmed an earlier ratification).
