Plataea - Scene of BattleThis scene depicts the place where the famous battle of Plataea was fought in 479 B.C.E. Unified Greek forces, under the command of Spartan generals, routed Xerxes and his huge army. To the Persians, the loss was not that significant. given the extent of Xerxes' empire. To the Greeks, however, the victory at Plataea was huge. Athens commemorated the win by creating the Parthenon, a wonder of the ancient Greek world.
