Richard II - King of England

Richard II, son of Edward of Woodstock (the first Prince of Wales), became king when his grandfather, Edward III, died.  He was next-in-line to the throne because his own father had died a year earlier.

This image, of Richard II, is a reproduction of a painting in Westminster Abbey by an unknown artist. Monk of Evesham, in his History of the Life and Reign of Richard II, describes him as follows:

He was prodigal in his gifts, extravagantly splendid in his entertainments and dress.
