Rommel's Defeat in Africa

Allied planes, and the British 8th Army, attack German positions in Africa across a forty-mile front.  In the desert, tanks smash Rommel's line, allowing enemy infantry to break through.

The clip, from the National Archives, includes actual battle scenes.  Dazed and shell-shocked German prisoners are rounded-up.  The British advance becomes "the rout of Rommel."  The great general had seen it coming but was unable to persuade Hitler to allow a retreat.
