Samuel Gridley HoweDr. Samuel Gridley Howe, graduate of Harvard Medical School, was the first director of Perkins School for the Blind. He developed a system to teach deaf-blind children, literally changing the world as a result. Howe (1801-1876) was married to Julia Ward Howe (a fellow abolitionist and author of "Battle Hymn of the Republic").
