This woodcut, depicting what could happen to slaves who fell ill aboard a slave ship, was initially published in The Liberator - an American abolitionist newspaper - on the 7th of January, 1832 (vol. 11, p. 2).

The picture accompanies an article on Brazil, which describes how sick African slaves were tossed overboard (while they were still alive) so a slave-ship's captain would not have to pay import duties on cargo which could not be sold.
