"Long Liz" Stride - Victim of Jack the Ripper

Elizabeth Stride, also known as "Long Liz," was born in Sweden (on a farm called Stora Tumlehed) in November of 1843.

In 1888, she was 45-years old, stood 5' 4" tall, and had light-gray eyes, dark-brown (curly) hair, pale skin and missing teeth (in her lower-left jaw).  People who knew her said she tended to be a quiet person who sometimes stayed out late at night and cleaned (when she could find work).  Anne Miller told the police that a "better hearted, more good natured cleaner woman never lived."

She was last seen alive at approximately 12:35 on the morning of October 1, 1888.  About twenty-five minutes later, Louis Diemschutz (a jewelry salesman) was driving his cart and pony when the horse refused to go further.  Getting out of his cart, Diemschutz spotted a still-warm body.

Later, when he talked with the police, Louis said he believed the murderer was still in the vicinity when he arrived because his horse was behaving oddly.

Elizabeth Stride was a victim of Jack the Ripper.
