Snow Leopard - Rare FootageThis rare footage depicts a snow leopard (uncia) stalking her prey - a young markhor - in the beautiful mountains of the Himalaya. The clip, from the BBC's Planet Earth, is believed to be the first footage ever filmed of a snow leopard hunting in the wild. It was captured by cameraman Doug Allan who endured incredibly difficult conditions to get the footage. The entire production of Planet Earth, which profiles many aspects of the Earth and its amazing features/creatures, took ten years to complete. In the summer of 2012, researchers from the Snow Leopard Trust and Panthera - working together - located two female snow leopards, and their baby cubs, safe and well in their dens located in the Tost Mountains of southern Mongolia. The snow leopard remains an endangered species. To view more videos and photos of snow leopards, visit those featured at ARKive.
