Spanish Armada - British Guns and Fire BoatsAt the beginning of the naval battles between Britain and the Spanish Armada, it seemed that the Spaniards had the upper hand. As Royal Navy guns fired from a distance, a great deal of English ammunition accomplished very little. Then ... the British decided they would sacrifice some of their ships to send terror into the Spanish navy. Fire ships had the desired impact, and the momentum of battle started to turn away from Spain.
