Supplication - Priam and Hecuba Visit Achilles

Priam (Hector's father) and Hecuba (his mother) are shown in this Attic red-figure Hydria (circa 470 BC) as they come to beg Achilles to release their son.  Hector's body, wounded though it is, has not deteriorated (because the goddess, Aphrodite, has treated it with ambrosia).
