Sutton Hoo - Anglo-Saxon Burial Ship

The discovery of this burial ship, at Sutton Hoo, was one of the most rare and exciting archaeological finds in Britain. Measuring 85 feet (27 meters) long, and 15 feet (4.5 meters) at its widest, the Anglo-Saxon ship was placed into the ground sometime during, or shortly after, 625 AD - predating the first Viking incursions.

The burial ship remained undisturbed until area excavations in 1939. Many solid-gold artifacts were also found at the site.
