Tenant Home - Mississippi River Levee

In June of 1940, Marion Post took this picture of a tenant-family's home alongside a Mississippi River levee, near Lake Providence, in East Carroll Parish, Louisiana.  (Currently, East Carroll Parish is one of Louisiana's poorest areas.) 

Levees are still very important in Louisiana.  At the time Marion Post took this picture, state workers often built levees before they built paved roads.
