The Chicago Tribune - Before the Great Fire of 1871People working for the Chicago Tribune, in October of 1871, believed their building was "fireproof." It had a wooden roof, however, which led to its demise. Like so many other buildings in the neighborhood, it became a victim of the Great Fire of 1871. This image depicts the old Tribune building.
