The Soloist - Walt Disney Hall

In 1987, Lillian Disney - the widow of Walt Disney - decided to give a gift to the people of Los Angeles.  It would be a beautiful, accoustically superior music center which would also honor the memory of her husband and his love of the arts.  By the time Disney Hall was completed, in 2003, the Disney family had contributed more than $100 million to the construction of the reported $274 million structure.

Located at 111 South Grand Avenue, in downtown Los Angeles, the new music center (designed by Frank Gehry) is home to the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra.  Although its structure appears massive on the outside, concert-hall seating is limited to 2,265.
