Trinity Test SiteThe remote test site, for detonating the plutonium bomb, was 210 miles south of Los Alamos in a place known as Jornada del Muerto (“Journey of Death”). From the safety of various observation bunkers, located 10,000 yards from the detonation site, Manhattan-Project members watched the world’s first nuclear bomb explode on July 16, 1945.
