USS Maine Explodes in HavanaOn the 15th of February, 1898, the USS Maine exploded while at anchor in Havana's harbor. The armored cruiser, built in 1865, had been sent to Cuba in January of 1898 to protect American interests, and citizens, during a time of trouble on the island.
