Lizzie Borden
MORE COOL LINKS
The best way to learn about any subject is from the study of primary source material. The Fall River Historical Society has a wealth of primary material about Lizzie Borden, including the papers of Hosea Knowlton, the prosecuting attorney. You can also view photographs of most of the people and places involved in the story. One of the most interesting objects, now owned by the Historical Society, is the hatchet which Lizzie allegedly used to kill her parents. When the trial was over, the alleged murder weapon went back to Lizzie. Free to give it to whomever she wished, she gave it to her lawyer. It ultimately became part of the Fall River Historical Society's collection. Another terrific source for primary material is the Fall River Police Department website. Lizzie Borden was a spinster her entire life. Follow this link to see a photograph of Lizzie as a young girl. Our story quotes Lizzie's answers to the prosecutor's questions in Parts I and II of the inquest. Follow this link to read Part III.
