"From This Day Forward"
A commitment for life
A day of excitement
We've become "man and wife."
The day of the wedding
"Our Day" with its frills
Follows a frenzy
Of planning and bills.
Sublime admiration
Joy and delight
At the moment of vows
Optimism burns bright.
The best of intentions
Motivate the "I do"
But immeasurable efforts
Make marriage ring true.
Will we have courage
To look past our faults
That will soon come to light
At the end of the waltz?
Will we have patience
Understanding and care
If plans are disrupted
If we both face despair?
Reality is not
What we want it to be
Can we focus on "us"
And sublimate "me"?
Our singular effort
Commanding our best
Is to make THIS DAY each day
We'll give that goal no rest.
The beauty of marriage,
Like a true work of art,
Is the process of crafting
With THIS DAY a mere start.
