Road to Perdition The Story Behind the Movie

Gangsters, especially in Chicago, dominated the U.S. national scene during the "Roaring Twenties." Al Capone, Frank Nitti ("The Enforcer") and their "outfit" made staggering amounts of money on illegal liquor during the 13 years of Prohibition.

By 1931, the "Tommy Gun" was the gangsters' weapon of choice. Michael Sullivan, the fictional "Angel of Death" for John Rooney and his Rock Island gang (including the boss' son Connor Rooney) is a crack shot. So is Maguire, "The Reporter," whose target is none other than Sullivan himself.

In "Road to Perdition" you will see the fictional character, Michael Sullivan, struggle between loyalty to his Rock Island mob "family" and loyalty to his own family. You will watch his journey to the fictional town of Perdition, Michigan where he seeks safety for his son. In our story behind the movie, you will follow links to meet the real people, observe the effects of Prohibition, and see the film sites of Perdition, the fictional town.
