STORY SUMMARY
During 1763, a fierce marauding animal, killing at will, roamed the fields and valleys of Auvergne and South Dordogne, France. The terror lasted three years.

At the time of the killings, eighteenth-century villagers initially thought the ravaging animal was a wolf. Yet...the Beast of Gevaudan seemed to target women and children. Wolves did not behave that way.

On the other hand, women and children tended the flocks. Maybe that made them more vulnerable to a four-legged killer.

By the time she was caught, on 19 June 1767, the animal - La Bete du Gevaudan (“The Beast of Gevaudan”) - had killed about one hundred people in several different villages.. She remains known, in France, as La Bete (the Beast).

In this story behind the film, take a trip to eighteenth-century France to discover how afraid people were of the mysterious creature. Read a contemporary account to get firsthand information. See various drawings which individuals, who had supposedly seen the animal, created of her. And ... compare the story of La Bete with fairy tales such as Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty.
