Aftermath of Tsunami at Banda Aceh

According to NOAA, the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the tsunami waves which struck the coast of Banda Aceh, Indonesia—following the December 26, 2004 earthquake—may have exceeded 50 meters.

Elsewhere, according to NOAA, the maximum-calculated wave height, for this tsunami, was 17.38 meters (57 feet).

This photo, taken on January 1, 2005, shows the aftermath of massive tsunami destruction along a coastal area in Banda Aceh.
