This map image depicts Alexander the Great’s route of travel as he journeyed to India.  It also shows where the town of Alexandria Arachosia (a Persian-Empire town which Alexander renamed) is situated.

While the town’s ancient name may have little meaning, its modern name - Kandahar - will be familiar.  The Afghanistan city was the scene of considerable fighting during the Second Gulf War.
