Amistad Captive Kimbo - His Story

This is a page from the Affidavit of Kimbo, one of the Amistad Africans who had been kidnapped in Sierra Leone.  The original document is maintained at the Library of Congress.

Among other things, Kimbo states:

  • He is Mende, an ethnic group from present-day Sierra Leone.
  • He was captured, then carried by force from his country.
  • When he requested water, from his captors, he was whipped.
