Responding to catastrophic events after Deepwater Horizon exploded and sank, BP tried to manage the oil slick with chemical dispersants.  Environmentalists are concerned about the volume of chemicals used since those dispersants have the potential to harm sea life.

The U.S. Coast Guard has released this BP drawing and provides the following description:

Graphic depicting subsea operations and methods being used to manage the flow of oil using subsea dispersants before they reach the surface, May 5, 2010. The operations are in response to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill following the explosion, April 20, 2010. Graphic provided by BP.
