Battle-Weary Marines Tragedies and Triumphs American History Social Studies

During the rainy season, Vietnam can become an uncomfortable place.  Add battle-fatigue and general weariness to the equation, and even strong young Marines can become exhausted.  These Marines are getting some rest despite the bad weather.

Maintained at the U.S. National Archives, this picture has the following description:

A BREAK IN THE RAIN - Two battle weary Leathernecks of the 26th Marine Regiment take a break, rain and all, during Operation Bold Mariner. The cordon operation on the Batangan Peninsula in Quang Ngai Province is aimed at uncovering and destroying the dreaded Viet Cong and his political infrastructure that preys on defenseless Vietnamese in remote villages and hamlets.
