Battle of Alexander at Issus Visual Arts Ancient Places and/or Civilizations Famous People World History

This image depicts detail from a 1529 oil painting by Albrecht Altdorfer (c. 1480–1538), a German artist who imagined how the conflict at Issus may have appeared when it was fought in 333 BC.

Here we see Alexander the Great, inspiring his men in “The Battle of Alexander at Issus.”  

Maintained at the Alte Pinakothek art museum in Munich, Germany.
