Battle of Cape Gloucester - Wounded Marines

This video without sound, from the U.S. National Archives, depicts wounded Marines at the Battle of Cape Gloucester as they are carried to an aid station and treated by Navy doctors. Note the one-piece camouflage jungle suits which are worn by some of the litter-bearers.

The historic footage, recorded during late 1943 and early 1944, reveals just a glimpse of the high numbers of casualties (310 killed and 1083 wounded) sustained by Marines at Cape Gloucester between the 26th of December (1943) and mid-January (1944).
