Bennett Buggies - Horses Pull Cars Tragedies and Triumphs American History Social Studies

Canada also felt the sting of the Great Depression.  This photo depicts a "Bennett Buggy" - an out-of-fuel car pulled by a horse.  Canada's National Archives provides the following description of this picture:

Mackenzie King drives a Bennett Buggy in Sturgeon Valley, Saskatchewan during the Great Depression. Named after Prime Minister R.B. Bennett, automobiles drawn by horses were used by farmers too poor to buy gas during the Great Depression in Canada.
