A military operation in Mogadishu, Somalia, goes terribly wrong when people on the ground shoot-down two American Black Hawk helicopters.

Thereafter a street battle erupts between U.S. military forces and Somalis. The event was made into a film entitled "Black Hawk Down," based on Mark Bowden's book of the same name.

This embedded video is a "Frontline" documentary about the Mogadishu battle, including interviews with survivors. It is entitled: "Ambush in Mogadishu." Among other things, it provides background information (and explains what happened) during October of 1993.

PBS provides a Teachers' Guide for this production.
