British Troops Wading Ashore at Gold Beach Visual Arts Famous Historical Events World War II

Gold Beach, the name given to a five-mile-long segment of beach along the Normandy shore, is located about 24 kilometers east of Omaha Beach.  British forces landed at Gold; American forces landed at Omaha.

The British 50th (Northumbrian) Division and No 47 Royal Marine Commandos were responsible for securing the beachhead and conducting the ensuing operations at Gold Beach.
