Cardinal Wolsey - Arrested for Treason

Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, who usually did his best to please Henry VIII, ultimately ran afoul of the King's pleasure.  Wolsey - Britain's highest-ranking cleric who also served as Lord Chancellor - was arrested for treason during November of 1530.

Wolsey, as it happens, had been unable to convince the reigning Pope to annul Henry VIII's marriage to Catherine of Aragon.  This failure, regarding such an important matter to the King, likely played a major role in Wolsey's downfall.

Wolsey, himself, had a "noncanonical" marriage with Joan Larke.  They had two children, a boy and a girl.

Soon after his arrest, Wolsey died at Leicester Abbey on November 29, 1530.
