Today, the world still regards the Dalai Lama as the spiritual leader of the Tibetan people.  Many honors have been given to him to recognize his courage, gentleness, and peaceful nature.

Many heads of government from around the world have met with him and given him their respect.  He has been featured in many international publications, and when he speaks it is always reported in international news.

In December of 1989, the Dalai Lama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his undying efforts to help the Tibetan people.  In his acceptance speech, the Dalai Lama spoke to the world and said, 

For as long as space endures,

And for as long as living beings remain, 

Until then may I, too, abide

To dispel the misery of the world.
