Charles W. Sweeney - Pilot of Bock's Car World War II American History Famous Historical Events Law and Politics

Charles W. Sweeney held the rank of Major when he flew a B-29 called Bock’s Car to Nagasaki, Japan on August 9, 1945.

This photograph, online via the U.S. Department of Defense, depicts Sweeney at about the time he flew the bomb-run mission.  

Returning his plane to Tinian Island, after the Nagasaki run, Sweeney had about a minute’s worth of fuel at the time he landed.
