County Antrim (called Contae Aontroma in Irish) is depicted above in light green. It is one of six provinces which constitute Northern Ireland. The partition, which occurred soon after the Irish-Anglo Treaty of 1921, divided the country. Most of Belfast, the capital of Northern Ireland, is in County Antrim.
Some scholars believe that St. Patrick lived and worked in the area known today as Country Antrim after he was kidnapped from his family.
