Dan Beard Outdoor School for Boys

The Dan Beard Camp was a popular place for boys at the time Howard Hughes was young.  His mother wanted him to interact with other young lads at the camp.

Focus, at the camp, was outdoor living and recreation.  The school described itself, in advertising literature, as:

a red-blooded institution, and at the same time a clean and moral school.

With support from the Camp-fire Club of America, it was not a military school.  Some of its funding also came from members of the National Council of the Boy Scounts of America.
