Deathbed Scene - Henry VIII

Deathbed Scene - Henry VIII World History Visual Arts Famous People Philosophy

Image of a painting called King Edward VI and the Pope, which depicts Henry VIII on his deathbed.  The painter is unknown.  The original work is maintained by the National Portrait Gallery, London.

By this time, of course, the King of England was the head of the Church of England.  This image depicts the low esteem in which the Pope was then-held by King Henry VIII.  It also conveys how Henry wanted his son to view the Pope's status when Edward succeeded his father as Britain's sovereign.
