Dr. Robert O. Wilson - Colleague of John Rabe

Dr. Robert O. Wilson-Colleague of John Rabe

Dr. Robert O. Wilson was born in Nanking on the 5th of October, 1906.  The son of American missionaries, he attended college in the States and graduated from Princeton University.  He received his medical degree from Harvard, in 1929, and returned to the city of his birth in 1936.

The following year, when Japanese military forces stormed Nanking, many health-care providers fled the city.  Historical reports tell us that Wilson was the only surgeon who stayed at the Nanking Hospital.

Because he risked his own life, to treat victims of the massacre which took place over a six-week period (beginning on the 13th of December, 1937), many people lived who would otherwise have died.
