Image of a portrait of Elihu Yale, painted by Enoch Seeman the Younger in 1717.  The original painting is maintained by Yale University Art Gallery in New Haven, Connecticut.

Yale, who made a fortune from his interests in the British East India Company, is the namesake of Yale University.  Before he became its benefactor, that institution was known as Collegiate (a struggling New Haven, Connecticut school).
